Firstlight Network is the electricity lines company for Tairāwhiti and Wairoa.
We’re a team of people who, with our contractors, are responsible for keeping the lights on across 12,000 square kilometres of the East Coast.
Powerco is Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest dual electricity and gas distributor by network length, with over a million people (across more than 500,000 connections) connected to its networks.
In Tairāwhiti and Wairoa, we own and maintain the poles, wires and underground cabling used by electricity retailers to supply customers with electricity. We also own the region’s high voltage electricity transmission network (the steel poles and towers that connect East Coast communities to the national grid).
As well as Tairāwhiti and Wairoa (Firstlight Network), Powerco’s electricity network covers Coromandel to South Waikato, western Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, Whanganui, Rangitīkei, Manawatū and Wairarapa. Its gas network covers Taranaki, Horowhenua, Hawke's Bay, Manawatū, Porirua, Hutt Valley and Wellington.

Over time, Firstlight Network will be integrated with the Powerco business. Powerco is committed to keeping the Tairāwhiti and Wairoa communities fully informed when systems and processes enable Firstlight Network to become integrated with Powerco systems and what that means for customers and communities.
